Spring Cleaning Your Windows and Doors

Spring cleaning can be a daunting task; luckily your friends at Pella have tips to get your windows and doors clean and for the summer months.

Windows: One easy and natural way to get your windows clean this spring is using a water and vinegar solution. Use a bucket of warm water with vinegar added. For every 2 cups of water, use ¼ cup vinegar. Many bloggers and cleaning gurus tell you to use an ammonia based solution. While this is fine for most windows, glass with a Low E or a sun defense coating can be tarnished and the ammonia sometimes leaves streaks on the windows. NOTE: Certain types of popular window cleaners have ammonia in them make sure to check the labels if you have coated or tinted glass.

Patio Doors: Besides cleaning the glass, it is important to remember the door track. Dirt and debris can build up in your patio door tracks and create operational issues. For sliding patio door deep cleaning, start by spraying an antibacterial cleaner in the door track. Let it sit and soak for 15-20 minutes and wipe out using either an old rag or paper towel. If you have pets or young children in your home, you may also notice dirt or hair collecting near the bottom of your interior door panels. If the panel material is wood, it is best to use a natural or gentle cleaning solution to keep the integrity of your wood. 

Blinds: One of the more tricky items in your home to clean are blinds and shades. The material can be easily torn or slats broken.
